Frequently asked questions

leBolide.com is an online auction platform that brings together buyers and sellers of cars and motorbikes, both old and new, expensive and affordable, but always 'interesting', i.e. with that little something that stands out and makes them desirable to motoring enthusiasts. leBolide also accepts certain lots that are related to the world of motoring, such as spare parts and works of art. leBolide combines the advantages of private sales (the lots remain with the seller until they are sold) and those of auctions (sale at the highest price the market is willing to pay with a deadline obliging the buyers to commit), all at incomparably competitive terms, for both sellers and buyers. We call upon the services of a team of specialists who will enhance the value of the lots offered for sale, guaranteeing both sellers and buyers the best possible experience.
You will find below a compilation of frequently asked questions. Take a look and if you still can't find an answer to your question, please email us at contact@lebolide.com.

Questions frequently asked by sellers

Our site is dedicated to the motoring enthusiasts. We select cars and motorbikes, both old and new, expensive and affordable, but always 'interesting', i.e. with that little something that stands out and makes them desirable. leBolide also accepts certain lots that are related to the world of motoring, such as spare parts and works of art.

As a seller, you will pay a flat fee of €99 to list your lot, whether it sells or not. This includes a full description written by our specialists. €99, not €1 more, regardless of the outcome of the sale.

We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express credit and debit cards.

Any person who is the owner of the lot or who certifies that he/she is duly authorized by the owner of the lot to represent him/her and to bind him/her to our Terms and Conditions may submit a lot.

Of course! We accept lots from anywhere in the world.

The first step to submit a lot is to fill in a questionnaire. One of our specialists will then examine it and leBolide will reply by email, generally within two working days, confirming that the lot corresponds -or not- to the "spirit of leBolide". If we believe we have a reasonable chance of selling the lot, we shall ask for a detailed photographic report which, combined with the information provided by the questionnaire, will help our editors to write an accurate, documented and attractive description. Upon receipt of this photographic report, we will charge you our flat fee of €99 (see above). Once the ad will have been written and after your approval, it will be programmed and posted online on leBolide as soon as possible.

We ask you to answer specific questions about your lot, its history and provenance and its condition, and to provide us with a copy of the registration certificate if relevant. Once the lot you submit has been approved, we will ask you to provide us with a detailed photographic reportage.

Photos are very important for successful sales. We cannot stress this point enough 😊. We have put together a guide to help you take good photos of your vehicle. We have also created a downloadable and printable document where you can find a list of photos to take and point them out to make sure you don't forget anything. You can also send us videos or links to videos.

Of course we can! If you want to hire a photographer, we have listed a selection of professionnals who work in Europe. The budget for a complete reportage generally varies from €300 to €1,000 plus travel expenses.

Your photos should not exceed 4MB each. If you meet this criterion, you should not encounter any upload problems. However, if there is a problem, please write to us at contact@lebolide.com and explain in detail the problem you are experiencing.

If you fill in your questionnaire in several steps, you will be able to retrieve it, once initiated, by going to "My account" and "My ads". Please note that the automatic saving is done after each page has been completed and the 'Next step' button has been clicked.

Once sent, the questionnaire cannot be modified. However, leBolide may contact you during the write up of the description and ask you for additional information. Before putting your lot’s advertisement online, leBolide will submit it to you for approval, and you will also have the opportunity to suggest changes at that time. Furthermore, you will be able to submit new photos and/or videos to be added to your ad at any time, and you will also be able to reply online to questions and comments from the community during the auction process.

We select lots in general and vehicles in particular to be offered for auction on leBolide according to a number of criteria, the first of which being the interest they will generate among motoring enthusiasts. The seller's expectations and, if applicable, the reserve price, must also be realistic in relation to the market.

It usually takes about ten days from submission of the questionnaire and reception of the photographic reportage for a lot to be posted online. The more complete the information, the quicker the auction will start! This period may be longer in the case of thematic auctions or lots requiring a specific marketing plan.

We use specialists to write the descriptions which are based on the information you provide through the questionnaire and the photo reportage. If your lot is accepted, the writer assigned to you will submit his draft to you for approval prior to publication. This service is included in the €99 fee.

A reserve is the minimum price below which a lot will not be sold. It is a protection for the sellers. We accept reasonable reserves and refuse lots where sellers’ expectations are too ambitious and do not correspond to fair market prices. Reserve prices are confidential and are not mentioned in the descriptions or during the auction process. The reserve price will however never be higher than the low estimate mentioned in the box at the top of each ad. Some lots may be offered without reserve and are therefore sold at the highest bid, regardless of its level. In this case, the information ‘No reserve’ will appear in the ad.

You may at any time lower or waive the reserve price of your lot during the auction process. In order to do so, go to "My account" and then to "My ads", and click on "Modify your reserve price". Alternatively, contact us by e-mail at contact@lebolide.com or by telephone on +33 6 4391 3932. We will register the change without delay. A seller may never increase the reserve price during the auction process.

The online auction of a lot can last anywhere between 48 hours and 2 weeks, but normally lasts 10 days. The closing date of an auction is always mentioned on the lot’s description.

Our terms of business specify that leBolide benefits from an exclusivity on the sale of the lots entrusted to us from the moment we receive the questionnaire until the end of the auction process. For any withdrawal of a lot during this period, whatever the reason, leBolide will charge a fixed indemnity of 5% (including VAT) of the reserve price or, failing that, of the low estimate of the lot, with a minimum of 250 or 500 euros (including VAT), depending on the lot, to the seller. These amounts are in addition to the flat fee of 99 euros covering the write up of the lot’s description.

Sellers will be notified by email of each new comment on their lot. To reply, simply enter your reply in the "Add a comment" box at the end of your lot listing. You can use the '@' symbol followed by the username of the commenter you wish to reply to in a targeted manner. Community feedback helps build trust and we encourage you to interact with the leBolide members.

We invite all potential buyers wishing to inspect a lot before placing a bid to contact the seller by using the "Contact Seller" button on each listing. Sellers will then receive an email from leBolide and can talk to buyers and arrange a meeting.

The amount of each new bid will be placed in the comments thread of the lot, thus informing the community, and respective sellers will be notified directly by email.

Online auctions sometimes see buyers using special software to enter a bid in the final seconds of the auction ("sniping") to bypass other bidders by removing their opportunity to respond. On leBolide, during the last two minutes of the auction, the clock resets to two minutes after each new bid. This is repeated until there are no more bids and the auction ends, thus giving each buyer an equal chance to acquire the lot he/she wants, and the seller to get the best price for his/her lot. The reference clock is that of time.windows.com, which you can set in your control panel or by activating the automatic date and time on your smartphone.

If, at the end of the sale, the reserve price is not covered, leBolide will immediately contact the seller who will have 24 hours to accept or reject the highest bid made by a buyer. The buyer remains committed during this time. In case of acceptance, the sale will be concluded under the normal leBolide terms. In case of refusal, no transaction will take place, the seller will keep his/her lot and will be free of any commitment towards leBolide.

The transaction for a lot won on leBolide takes place directly between the seller and the buyer who agree between them the terms of payment and collection of the lot. At the end of the auction, leBolide will send to the winning bidder and the seller each other's contact details by e-mail as well as a link to a sample for a contract between them. We recommend that the seller mails a photocopy of the registration or ownership document of the lot and a sales invoice to the buyer before the latter sends the payment. We advise buyers to pay by bank transfer.

It is the buyer's responsibility to organise the collection and to take care of the transport of the lot he/she purchased.

As a general rule, we do not re-auction a lot that has not sold. Lots tend to attract more interest when they are fresh. An exception may be made in the case of thematic sales. At its sole discretion, leBolide may then contact the seller of a car already put up for auction on the site and remained unsold that corresponds to the theme.

In certain cases, and at its sole discretion, leBolide may propose to a seller whose lot has not been sold at auction to continue advertising it in order to facilitate a private transaction. The terms under which such a transaction could take place would be negotiated with the seller on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently asked questions by buyers

The online auction of a lot can last anywhere between 48 hours and 2 weeks, but normally lasts 10 days. The closing date of an auction is always mentioned on the lot’s description. Only members who have registered their bank details with the leBolide bank’s secure server (operated by Le Crédit Mutuel) may bid. In exceptional cases, a buyer may place a purchase order with leBolide by writing to contact@leBolide.com. Bids are placed in pre-set increments. Bidders have the choice of entering an amount or entering a ceiling using our automatic bidding system (see below). When a bid is placed, the amount will be visible in the comments thread in order to inform the community.
As long as bids do not reach the reserve price, a window will appear to inform the bidder and suggest a new bid. Thus, it is possible that a bidder will outbid himself/herself until he/she reaches the reserve price. leBolide reserves the right to place bids on behalf of the seller or on behalf of a buyer, as an auctioneer in a live auction room would do. These bids will be identified by the pseudonym 'Contre vous'. If a bid covers the reserve price and no one overbids, the bidder becomes the buyer and must pay the amount bid to the seller as well as the leBolide fee which amounts to 5% (VAT included) of the winning bid.

• Between €0 and €4,999 --> €100 increments
• Between €5,000 and €19,999 --> €200 increments
• Between €20,000 and €49,999 --> €500 increments
• Between €50,000 and €199,999 --> €1,000 increments
• Over €200,000 --> €2,000 increments

In order to bid, a buyer must first register to become a member and communicate his/her bank details by going to the "Payment" tab of "My account". He/she will then be directed to the leBolide bank’s secure server (operated by Le Crédit Mutuel). Once registered and connected, the bidder, by clicking on the "Bid and Comment" button at the top of the detailed lot page, will arrive in the "Bidding" section.
He/she will then have two possibilities:
- either enter an immediate bid by selecting one of the proposed amounts
- ou or enter a ceiling using our automatic bidding system.
Once the bid is placed, leBolide will proceed with a request for a pre-authorisation to debit an amount corresponding to 5% of the bid price, without however exceeding €5,000. This is not a debit but an amount blocked on the member's bank account to guarantee his/her ability to eventually pay the buyer’s premium due to leBolide. This operation will only be carried out at the time of the first bid on the lot and will remain valid until the end of the auction. Once the auction is over, the exact amount of the premium due to leBolide will be debited to the buyer's account using the pre-authorisation. If the amount due is higher than the amount of the pre-authorisation, the additional amount will also be debited to the same account. Bidders whose bids are not successful will have the pre-authorisation cancelled and will not be debited with any amount.

leBolide offers an automatic bidding system to allow members who cannot follow the live auction, but are interested in a lot, to bid anyway. The bidder will be able to enter in a dedicated box the maximum amount he/she is ready to pay for the lot. Our system will then place bids on his/her behalf as long as necessary and never more than necessary to secure the lot, respecting the pre-established maximum amount entered.
Example with a reserve price of €16,000:
Member A enters a maximum bid of €20,000
Member B, of €18,000
Member C, of €32,000
The bid that will be placed and will appear in the comments will be:
"Bid by Member B: €18,000"
"Bid by Member A: €20,000"
"Bid by Member C: €20,500".
Same example, but with a reserve price of €25,000:
In this case, the bid that will be placed and will appear in the comments will be: "Bid by Member C: €25,000".
When two bidders place an automatic bid with the same ceiling, both bids, which are identical, will be displayed and the one that will be selected will be the one received first. Continuing the previous example, let's say that after C, D enters an automatic bid of €32,000 as well. In this case, the following will appear in the comments:
firstly "Bid by Member D: €32,000",
and then "Bid by Member C: €32,000", which bid will be retained as it was received first.

A bid represents an irrevocable contractual commitment and cannot be cancelled. Bidders who do not execute their bids will eventually be prosecuted. Bid carefully!

The online auction of a lot can last anywhere between 48 hours and 2 weeks, but normally lasts 10 days. The closing date of an auction is always mentioned on the lot’s description.

If, at the end of the sale, your bid is the highest but does not cover the reserve, leBolide will immediately contact the seller who will have 24 hours to accept or reject your bid. You remain irrevocably committed during this time. In case of acceptance, the sale will be concluded under the normal leBolide terms. In case of refusal, no transaction will take place and no amount will be charged to you.

Of course! Any registered buyer with a valid credit card can bid from anywhere in the world.

Yes. leBolide will charge a premium of 5% of the final auction price to the winning bidder, with a minimum of €500 for cars and €250 for motorbikes, spare parts and art. The information requested when you register as a buyer includes your credit card details. At the time of the first bid placed by the buyer, leBolide will proceed with a request for a pre-authorisation to debit an amount corresponding to 5% of the bid price, without however exceeding €5,000. Bidders whose bids are not successful will have the pre-authorisation cancelled and will not be debited with any amount. leBolide does not charge any fees on unsold lots.

We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express credit and debit cards.

Buyers can update their credit card information by going to the "My Account" page and then to the "Payment" tab. If you are bidding on an active auction on leBolide, you will not be able to update your credit card information until that auction closes.
